Description

A map of Europe with the Schlieffen Plan represented on the countries. The German troops would concentrate on moving into France. The plan is labelled as ‘The Schlieffen Plan 1905-1914. There is a legend showing distances with the measurement of 40 miles. The map includes countries with textures to show the borders of Germany from 1870 to 1914 and the neutral countries of Belgium, Luxembourg and Holland, each of which German troops planned to move across.

On top of the countries, the map shows the plan, which includes: the location of the five German troop concentrations that were ready to mobilize from Germany; the five proposed lines of advance the troops planned to take to get behind French fortresses and end up deep inside France; and the location of French fortresses in the French fortress zone which were planned to be bypassed by the longer lines of advance.

The plan shows that German troops were planning to move over a much longer distance and through other countries in order to unexpectedly attack from the borders of Belgium and quickly move into France.
